Product Description
tikitag enables consumers to trigger online actions by touching RFID labeled things with NFC Mobile Phones or PC RFID readers. Applications range from travelers requesting information about a monument that's tagged, to children interacting with a PC via tagged toys. tikitag provides an open application-creation platform: via comprehensive DIY tools, any application builder or web-literate consumer can create RFID applications, share them on tikitags website and define actions associated with tags.
Market Opportunity
IDTechEX estimates the worldwide market for RFID network, software and services to grow from around $1 billion in 2008 to over $6 billion in 2013 and expects a cumulative 1,000 billion RFID tags by 2017. Strategy Analytics projects that in 2012 around 250 million NFC phones will be sold.
DEMO Says
RFID is going mainstream, and Alcatel-Lucent is leading the parade. The same technology that allows warehouses to track pallets of Wheaties is the basis for a consumer service that bridges the tangible and digital worlds. While clearly a product focused on the early adopter, tikitag sets the stage for the understanding and adoption of RFID into new and wider markets.
