Free service tells people where things are, how to get there
For many mobile workers, finding something in an unfamiliar city, whether it's a restaurant or a dry cleaner, can be difficult if you don't have an Internet-enabled mobile device. For cell phone users, finding these services was just made easier.
Jingle Networks (DEMOfall 05) this week teamed up with Dial Directions to offer a service that not only tells you where something is located, but also how to get there.
By calling 800-FREE411 (373-3411), users can ask for directions to any directory listing, and receive them via SMS to a cell phone. For example, callers can speak their starting address and receive turn-by-turn directions to the directory listing via text message. The service will initially be available for users in the San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago and Los Angeles starting March 1st, with nationwide access available by April 1st, the companies said.
The new service now also provides additional advertising opportunities to reach consumers, Jingle added. "The most requested additional information service our callers want is directions, and now we can offer the best such service available from Dial Directions," said George Garrick, Jingle's CEO.
Since launching at DEMOfall 05, Jingle says it has been adopted by more than 90,000 local and national advertisers.
