In a recent DEMOcast Keith Shaw used the term Silent Innovator when talking about Microstaq earning their Series B round and the term got me thinking. How many DEMO companies, especially those in the enabling technology area do we lose track of after leaving the DEMO stage simply because we can't 'see' their success in the gadgets we use daily?
For instance Microstaq, who developed a new kind of valve technology that significantly improves the energy efficiency of HVAC systems and other applications, estimates that of the 600 billion valves sold annually for global use, their solutions address 70 to 80% of the market. That's a pretty significant, yet invisible, piece of the pie.
I had the opportunity to catch up with Sandeep Kumar, President & CEO of Microstaq to find out what the company has been up to, how they’re coping with the economic landscape that greeted them three weeks after a company launch and what new areas we can expect to 'not see' them succeed in.
Here's what I found out: http://podcasts.networkworld.com/demo/2009/011209democast.mp3
