Funding

Streamload was totally self-financed for the first four years of its existence and received its first institutional round of funding in August 2004 from Windward Ventures. Total funding: $1.2 million. Additional angel investors include: Charlie Jackson, city of San Diego, Emtek (Emerging Technologies) Fund.

Competitors

Apple .Mac, plus secondary competitors such as Flickr, Snapfish, Shutterfly, Kodak EasyShare, Yahoo Photos, Real Rhapsody, Napster, Yahoo Music, Xdrive, Iomega iStorage, ProSoftnet Corp.’s Ibackup, Google’s Gmail, Yahoo Mail, and MSN Hotmail.

Product Description

Streamload offers a complete online media center enabling consumers to centrally manage, share and access their full-quality personal digital entertainment content from any Internet-connected device. The video sharing application is the first to truly allow on-demand viewing, storing, organizing and sharing of full-quality personal videos and video albums without file size limits.

Market Opportunity

Parks Associates predicts shipments of 140 million digital multimedia devices by 2008 (66 million in 2004.) As consumers adopt these large-capacity digital devices (MP3 players, video devices, digital cameras), and as media center PCs crowd hard drives, the desire to transfer/store/share digital files will continue to increase dramatically.

Demo Says

It’s hard to make a compelling case for online backup and storage of consumer data, what with the tremendous storage capacity of local drives and the near-ubiquity of writable CDs. By offering a set of media-specific editing and sharing tools, Streamload makes a differentiated case that offers real value rather than scare tactics to attract consumers to this unique media storage and sharing service.
