Tradesparq raised seed capital in the third quarter of 2011 in the form of a convertible note. The round included three institutional investors ($150K), four angel investors ($80K) and friends and family ($95K).
Established trade portals such as Alibaba, Global Sources, and Made-in-China are the key players in the B2B trade advertising space, all of which are Web 1.0 sites that do not employ social networking tools and have straight advertising directory business models. Networking sites such as LinkedIn or Xing can also be considered competitive but they are focused on the HR market not the trade market and do not have product-category architecture.
Market Opportunity
Online B2B marketplaces is a USD multi-billion market. Our revenue-generating clients come from the more than 10 million suppliers that currently have profiles on Alibaba, Global Sources, and Made-in-China, the three largest listed companies that operate Web 1.0 trade platforms.
